What should cruise passengers read to keep themselves up to date when they arrive in Southampton?

Well, there's only one answer to that - the Southern Daily Echo newspaper (and of course our app or website dailyecho.co.uk).

And that's exactly what happened as 3,000 passengers embarked on the luxurious Queen Anne liner for her maiden voyage.

The thousands of passengers joining Queen Anne on Friday were each handed a copy of the Echo ahead of their sailing.

Cruise operator Cunard advertised with a printed wrap on the Echo showcasing the brand's history with her homeport of Southampton.

President of Cunard Katie McAlister, the Lord Mayor of Southampton Councillor Valerie Laurent and Captain Inger Thorhauge were all captured on camera reading the newspaper ahead of the ship's 9pm sailing.

The Bishop of Winchester - The Rt Revd Philip Mounstephen - was on board for the ship's blessing along with the traditional plaque and key exchange.
