SAINTS manager Russell Martin insisted he has "weighed up" all options of how to approach his starting team at Leeds United.

The boss knows he will need his side ready for the Championship playoff semi-final first leg just eight days later.

Saints are guaranteed a fourth-place finish in the league and will visit the team that finishes fifth first, before a home leg the following week.

First, they take on potential playoff final rivals Leeds in the final match of the regular season at Elland Road.

Martin made five changes in a rotated starting team last night out against Stoke City but hinted that might not be the case again.

"I think we've weighed it all up," Martin suggested, speaking to the Daily Echo.

Daily Echo: Southampton 0-1 Stoke City

"I don't think there's any right or wrong. You make the decision that you think is right at the time, but we have a game to win is the way I see it.

"It's really simple. We're going there and a lot of people are paying a lot of money to go there and travel.

"I have been asked about the ticket prices, I know people are paying a lot of money to be there. It's the last game of the season and I want to finish it well and the fans deserve that.

"The players deserve that. We have a game to win and of course, we have to focus on the big picture and there's been some big-picture thinking in the last couple of weeks for sure.

"We've sat there and planned everything as well as we possibly can but ultimately it comes down to wanting to win a game and the lead is important.

"It's an important game because we could face them again at some point," Martin continued.

"It's important for the players to make sure they go on the pitch with the right intensity, the right courage to put themselves and the team ready for the playoff.

"The team that starts will definitely not be the team that finishes the game so people will get an opportunity and we'll have to manage a couple of players.

"But ultimately we're there and we're there to win and we're there to play in our way and that has to be the mentality regardless of what game it is."
